Great Horned OwlCailleach’s Call

I am thirst itself. Knowledge and ignorance. Hope and disillusionment. I am insatiable: the maiden, mother, and Hag . . . Cailleach. I am druid, for I have traveled the path of life long learning and critical questioning: Bard, Sage, Philosopher, I am all of these and more. Welcome to my perch.

Welcome to the Cailleach’s Chair, home for the 21st century Cult of Cailleach! Please read our opening post about Cailleach and why we exist. This space has been created to help us all live a better life through integrated living: buying less stuff, having more experiences, encouraging health through natural means, and creating a web of support.

Articles are written by myself, Reba (R~), KDK (Kathryn) and others within our growing community of individuals working to create a more meaningful and sustainable life.

All articles fall under the following categories of Story Telling-the Bard (poet and storyteller, historian), Sage or Ovate (prophet, seer, healer and diviner), and the Philosopher or Druid (education, philosophy, law giver). If we live an integrated and holistic life, we become all these designations. Each designation has something to teach us about living a life well lived.

The Editors

RebaRebecca Lea McCarthy (Editor), Reba or R~, is an actor, writer, improv artist, and educator. She has a PhD in Comparative Studies and teaches Communication and Theatre. She divides her time between the South Sound in Washington State and Hawaii, where she is active in the theatre community. Her first book is on the Magdalene Laundries, Origins of the Magdalene Laundries, which explores the long history and evolution behind these “reform” institutions. Her second book, Writing the Diaphragm Blues and Other Sexual Cacophonies, explores female sexuality from childhood to menopause. She is passionate about living a life well lived, lifelong learning, and “living Big while dwelling small.”

Kathryn KetrenosKathryn D. Ketrenos (Editor), Kat or KDK for short. KDK enjoys creative writing, theater (but not daily drama), working crossword puzzles, and taking care of three rescued cockatoos. Like many in the “living large, dwelling small” movement, she is ready to let go of the ‘stuff’ that means so much to too many people and just be. KDK rejects the notion of money as deity, wants to help others work toward stepping away from the grind by learning how to do for ourselves. Let us hope we come to some implementable solutions here at Cailleach’s Chair!
